Salt Lake Modern Quilt Guild
The valley's modern quilting guild — evening meetings rather than daytime ones, plus a monthly all-day sew day, which makes it one of the few groups in Utah that works around a job.

About Salt Lake Modern Quilt Guild
Most quilt guilds in Utah meet on a weekday morning, which quietly rules out anyone with a job. The Salt Lake Modern Quilt Guild is one of the exceptions: monthly meetings run in the evening, roughly 6.30 to 9pm, with a separate all-day sew day each month for people who can make a weekend.
The focus is modern quilting — bold solids, negative space, improvisational piecing — which is a genuinely different tradition from the reproduction and traditional work that dominates much of the state. If that’s the direction your own quilting has been pulling, this is where you’ll find your people.
Sew days are the pleasant part: bring a machine and whatever half-finished thing has been reproaching you, and work on it in company. Meetings include what the guild cheerfully calls a yappy hour.
The guild describes itself as welcoming members of all ages and backgrounds, and it runs a newsletter and an active Instagram presence if you want to get a feel for the work before turning up.
Worth knowing: Salt Lake City itself now has only one fabric shop, so most members do their shopping in Sandy or West Jordan. See Salt Lake County.
