And Sew On carries a distinction it probably never asked for: it is the last fabric shop inside Salt Lake City proper. Everything else in the valley sits out in the suburbs — Sandy, West Jordan, Murray, Draper — which makes this 3300 South shop genuinely important if you live in the city and don’t fancy a drive.

The pitch is straightforward and appealing: good fabric at prices that don’t sting, plus patterns and notions. It isn’t trying to be a destination boutique, and that’s rather the point — it’s the shop you can pop into when you’re two yards short, without making an expedition of it.

Classes run for all ages, which is worth knowing if you’re trying to get a child or a teenager started and would rather not teach them yourself.
