Fabric stores in Ogden, Utah

Ogden lost a much-loved craft institution when Bennion's closed, but The Quilted Beehive carries the town — and stays open until seven, which almost nothing else in northern Utah does.

Fabric shopping in Ogden

Ogden’s fabric scene is smaller than it was. Bennion Crafts & Frame, a Weber County family business for seventy-one years, closed in early 2022, and with it went the town’s big general craft-and-fabric store. We’ve taken it off this list rather than leave you driving to a shut door.

What remains is good, though. The Quilted Beehive in the Rainbow Gardens complex is the quilt shop — a full range of quilting cottons, a generous notions and gift section, and classes. Its great advantage is the hours: open until seven, Monday to Saturday. Almost every fabric shop in the state closes at five or six, so an evening option in northern Utah is worth knowing about.

Wimmer’s on 12th Street handles the other half of the equation — sewing machine and vacuum sales, parts and repairs. Not a fabric stop, but the place to go when something needs fixing.

Making a day of it

Historic 25th Street is a short drive from either shop and is the nicest part of town to eat and wander, with the restored Union Station at the bottom of it. The mountains are right behind Ogden, so an afternoon drive up Ogden Canyon rounds a visit off well.

Nearby

Davis County is close and has more shops than Weber does — Kaysville, Layton, Clearfield and Bountiful are all within about half an hour, and Roy is closer still. See Weber County and Davis County for the full picture.

The local guild

Often the quickest way to meet other quilters — and to hear about retreats and workshops that never get advertised.
