Fabric stores in Vernal, Utah

Two small shops that between them cover the basin — one built around minky and finished blankets, the other doing longarm quilting, which saves posting a top over the mountains.

Fabric shopping in the Uinta Basin

Vernal is a long way from everywhere — the drive to Salt Lake is a good three hours each way — so its two shops matter more to the people here than their size suggests.

Cozy Minky on Highway 40 is built around minky, in more varieties than a town this size ought to support, with cotton and flannel by the yard and finished blankets from baby to adult XL. Jennifer, who runs it, gets consistently warm mentions for tracking down whatever someone’s after.

Apricot Stitches on West Main is smaller in selection but carries the service that matters most out here: longarm quilting. Finishing a top otherwise means shipping it over the Uintas and waiting, so having someone local to quilt it is worth a great deal.

Plan for a weekday

Both shops are closed on Saturdays, and Apricot Stitches is closed Mondays too. That catches people out more than anything else in this directory — a weekend trip to Vernal will find both doors shut. Aim for Tuesday to Friday.
