Maple Mountain Quilt Retreat sits on River Bottoms Road in Spanish Fork, semi-secluded but not remote — close enough to dining, shopping and hiking that a non-sewing afternoon is easy to arrange.

The workroom is what distinguishes it. Eight individual workstations, each with its own power source and an ergonomic chair; cutting tables that adjust for height, with mats and long rulers; and two ironing stations. That last detail matters more than it sounds: one iron between eight people creates a queue that quietly eats a whole morning.

The bedrooms each have a theme — The Cabin, Grandma’s Attic, Land That I Love, Quilters Are Crazy — which sounds twee written down and turns out to be the thing groups remember and argue cheerfully about.

Height-adjustable cutting tables are worth singling out. On day one nobody notices; by day three, anyone who has spent hours bent over a table two inches too low certainly does.
