Fabric stores in Santa Clara, Utah

Clover Patch holds more than 9,000 fabrics while keeping most cotton around eight to ten dollars a yard — a combination almost nowhere manages, and reason enough to leave St. George for an hour.

Why Santa Clara is worth the ten-minute drive

Santa Clara is a small town just west of St. George, and it holds one of the best fabric shops in southern Utah.

Clover Patch Quilt Shop carries more than 9,000 fabrics while deliberately keeping most quality cotton somewhere around eight to ten dollars a yard. Those two things almost never go together — shops with that range usually charge for it, and cheap shops usually have thin shelves. The review record reflects it: about 4.9 stars across nearly a hundred and fifty reviews.

It also keeps generous hours for this trade, nine until six Monday to Saturday, which is longer than most of the St. George shops manage.

Making a day of it

Santa Clara sits right beside Snow Canyon State Park, so this pairs beautifully with a morning drive through the red and white sandstone before the heat arrives. The old town center has some lovely pioneer-era buildings too.

St. George and its five shops are ten minutes east — see Washington County for everything in the corner of the state.
